LYSOL® Kills the “Staph Bug”

A number of schools across the country have reported cases of infection from the so-called “Super-bug” – MRSA (Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus, an antibiotic resistant strain of Staph). While infections from MRSA are not uncommon, the ensuing media coverage of the “Super-bug” has prompted some schools to encourage parents to purchase LYSOL® products for students, causing a spike in demand.

We want to assure you that we have an adequate supply of LYSOL® Disinfectant Spray to meet this increase in demand and have specifically amassed supplies of our most popular Crisp Linen® scent in the event of such an occurrence. LYSOL® Disinfectant Spray is registered with the Federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as a hospital grade disinfectant and is proven effective at killing the MRSA bacterium on hard, non-porous surfaces. 

We cannot predict how long the media coverage regarding MRSA infections will last.  We have already seen news coverage of recent MRSA cases in schools from 15 states (Virginia, New Hampshire, Mississippi, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Ohio, West Virginia, Indiana, Michigan, North Carolina, Florida and Arizona.) There has also been extensive media coverage in areas that have not reported any infection. This media coverage could continue to drive increased demand for Lysol over the next several weeks and into the start of the typically busy Flu season.

In addition to maintaining adequate supply, we are also actively working with the media and National Association of School Nurses to provide education on proper hygiene, cleaning and disinfection procedures to reduce and minimize any potential exposure and stop the transmission of this disease.
